In 2019 we served 1,371 clients who received at least one billable service in 2019, whose residential arrangement is currently listed as “homeless.”
Valley Cities has served King County residents for over 55 years. Valley Cities Phoenix Rising is a permanent supportive housing program for young adults ages 18-25 who are experiencing homelessness. Phoenix Rising offers safety, recovery and mental health services in addition to an onsite café for its residents.
The Auburn homeless population represents approximately 352 men, women and children in a population that has increased over 20% since 2014. 40% are unsheltered. Phoenix Rising provides 24 single occupancy units geared to skill-building toward independent living.
Food Scarcity: The Phoenix Rising Café provides two meals daily at no charge to residents and for most, is the primary source of sustenance. There is no budget for food for the Phoenix Rising Café and as such, we rely on donations. Food is also provided for Valley Cities Recovery Place Kent, one of our inpatient treatment facilities.
COVID-19 adds additional mental and physical strain, as individuals lose access to critical basic needs, resources, and spaces. Homelessness deeply degrades health through environmental exposure, lack of food, and social support.
We have a mission to help those who face day to day challenges unknown to most people. Reaching out with food needs for Phoenix Rising residents and other individuals experiencing homelessness are examples of inclusion, respect, and encouragement to those who are at extreme low points in their lives.
